FashionSchoolReview.com’s “Fashion Career Quiz” found that out of four fashion industry tracks–design, marketing, merchandising, and retail management– fashion design answers were the most popular. With such popularity and only 17,000 fashion design jobs available in the U.S., job applicants are likely to face fierce competition if they don’t have an educational edge. Many potential students facing the challenges of a competitive fashion design market are using the resources on FashionSchoolReview.com (http://www.fashionschoolreview.com).

FashionSchoolReview.com’s quiz was designed to help users get a feel for which fashion career track best suits their interests. The total responses for each track on the FashionSchoolReview.com quiz are:

    Design: 10,691

    Marketing: 4,417

    Merchandising: 8,591

    Retail-management: 3,631

Participants’ responses were analyzed and matched to four industry tracks. For example, in response to the question “What is it about your favorite clothing store that keeps you coming back?” one user chose, “The clothes! Great fabric, stitching, and design.” This answer was then matched to the track for fashion design. In another question, the user was prompted to finish the statement, “In fashion, it’s most important to be.” That user chose, “unique,” which also met the criteria for fashion design.

Fashion design’s popularity may be an offshoot of current popular culture and TV shows like “America’s Next Top Model” and “Project Runway.” According to the Reuters news group, 3.4 million people watched the final episode of “Project Runway,” Bravo’s popular fashion design show.

Fashion design is a large part of popular culture, and now potential students are turning their pop culture obsession into a career. In an article posted on Washington Post.com, Tim Gunn, Chair of Fashion Design at Parsons The New School for Design stated, “Fashion Design enrollments have risen in schools nationwide, and there were more designers participating in Olympus Fashion week than ever before.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also shows an increased interest in fashion due to the creativity and glamour associated with the field. However, while interest continues to rise, the jobs in fashion design are still scarce. Because of the competitive nature of fashion design, students should be motivated to use FashionSchoolReview.com to find the fashion design programs that suit them best and will prepare them for the competitive job market.

FashionSchoolReview.com (http://www.FashionSchoolReview.com) is an interactive and informative fashion school Web site that helps users interested in fashion school find the right fit.
